Earth Day is a time to reflect and be thankful for everything the Earth does for us. It is also a time to strengthen our relationship with nature, to give back, and to think of ways we can work to better support the Earth for future generations.
The first Earth Day took place on April 22nd in 1970, a monumental day that is widely credited for launching the modern environmental movement. Over 20 million Americans from all walks of life participated in the very first Earth Day, and the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and several other ground-breaking environmental laws soon followed. Two decades later, Earth Day went global, assembling over 200 million people in 141 countries to promote environmental issues onto the world stage.
This year, we celebrate 50 years of Earth day, as we dedicate the theme to climate action.
As many of us are staying at home to control the spread of COVID-19, we’ve taken more time to spend with family or roommates, meaning we’re also spending a lot more time talking to with these people, for better or worse.
With it being Earth Day, there’s never been a better time to talk about something we all share, the Earth and its greatest threat, climate change.
