Having worked for his Father’s own plumbing company for many years, Callum believed that it was time to take the new step in his career and pursue his dream of working in the heating industry. He applied to work at Hero and having spoken to the Operation manager, they believed he was perfect for the role and Callum has now been with Hero Renewable for around 11 months and in his time he has completed more than 60 installations to date.
Callum had been working for his father’s company for over 8 years, he tried to help out as much as he can by working throughout the school holidays and gaining as much work experience as he could. Once Callum passed his engineering and electronic course at Stoke-On-Trent Collage, he went on to work for his father’s company full time.
After completing all the basic staff training, Callum was hands on; just a few days after joining Hero he was down in Exeter undertaking his first installation for Hero.
Callum’s first job was for a previous customer who had a new-build home and was looking to power the home just off renewable energy. Therefore, his project manager believed that an air source heat pump system combined with a Solar PV and Underfloor heating system with a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system would be perfect for the property.
Once the date for the installation was set, Callum drove over 200 miles down to the property in Devon to start the project. He installed an 8.5kW Mitsubishi Ecodan outdoor unit with an FTC 5 controller, unvented 250-litre hot water cylinder and connected it to the underfloor heating.
Once the two systems were installed and tested, Callum and our other engineers, Greg and James, then fitted 20 Longi Solar Mono All Black Solar PV panels with a Solis Dual 6kW single-phase inverter along with the mechanical ventilation heat recovery system. The job took a few days to complete, but once it was done it meant that, Mr Moate’s new-build home could power as much heat, hot water and electricity as he wanted, guilt free as it was running off renewable energy.

Which Is Your Favourite Renewable Product To Install And Why?
“The best renewable product to install for me has to be the ground source heat pump, due to it being a larger and more complete system to install.”
What Renewable Energy Product Are You Most Skilled Or Qualified To Install?
“As I have had nearly a decades work of experience in the plumbing industry and been working on boilers and heating systems it now allows me to be highly skilled at installing an air source heat pump, both for domestic and commercial properties.”
On your travels throughout the UK which was the best scenic route you have been on or through?
“I did a project up in Carradale, Scotland with Ed and James. The views and surrounding areas were amazing. We couldn’t help but have a quick pit stop on our way home and take in the sites, the drive back took us 9 hour’s but the views all the way home were just class.”
