29 Jul Rattled by renewables? You’re not the only one…
The world of renewable energy can be quite unclear for newcomers, as I found out when I joined Hero Renewables as their new Marketing Apprentice. However, having been here for only a month, I have already been remarkably inspired by what I have learnt.
First and foremost, I must admit that I had acquired common preconceptions of renewable energy, such as long payback time, poor reliability and low energy production. However, I have since grasped an enhanced understanding of the industry and now bear a much more positive perception of it. As I mentioned, I was under the naive impression that renewable energy systems took an unworthy amount of time to pay off, but now understand that payback time can be as little as three years, depending on various factors. This is partially down to the Renewable Heat Incentive, which is another key aspect of the industry that I have learnt about. It is a government backed scheme that provides financial support for those who install renewable energy systems, which I think is a brilliant incentive. Some companies (like ourselves) can also offer finance to customers and I believe that along with the RHI this provides a fantastic solution to those who may be put off by the price. My head has very much been turned on the financial side of things!
Secondly, I was unaware of the range of the renewable energy systems available to the public. Like most people, when I used to hear ‘renewable energy’ only wind turbines and solar panels would spring to mind, but there are far more renewable technologies than I thought. Biomass Boilers, Air/Ground Source Heat Pumps and Solar Thermal systems were all new to me, but this only added to my curiosity. Biomass Boilers and Heat Pumps can supply enough energy to power 100% of your homes demands, which leaves me wondering why they are so unknown in the public. These systems can all be uniquely fitted to different buildings to provide optimum output, which further adds to the appeal of using renewable systems. It’s not just Wind Turbines and Solar Panels after all!
Unfortunately, not enough people have a good understanding of the renewable energy, which is undoubtedly one of the largest issues within the industry right now. However, I share the same vision as everyone else here at Hero Renewables, where everyone is striving towards a country that is fully educated on the implications of renewable energy systems.
